The Q&A Archives: Small Evergreens

Questioner's Location: Plainfield, IL
Date: June 23, 1998

Question: There is a small space for planting on either side of the garage door. It faces south and gets lots of sun. What small evergreen would do well there and not get large.

Answer: I would recommend a Mugho Pine, Bird's Nest Pine, Picea abies "Little Gem", or Picea glauca "Rainbow's End". The first two are fairly common and you should be able to find them at any garden center, the other two are more rare but are offered by Wayside Gardens at 1-800-845-1124.
