Caption: very low growing plant, usually less than 6 or 7 inches and can be easy to overlook. Several sites give the bool-time as spring but I have seen it bloom after summer rains and this bloom is from Nov. 1st. Several other plants also had blooms.

Caption: Found 3 of these shrubs growing in close proximity to my home. Blooms abundantly in fall but only in years with summer rains. The plant generally produces few flowers in dry years.

Caption: This was a good year for rain and all three shrubs I saw were covered in flowers. The flowerheads have only disc flowers, no rays. The foliage is resinous.

Caption: This is one of several volunteers from the "Mother" tree. Most have grown from runners but I believe this one probably came from seed. The mother tree only produces a few seed pods a year although it blooms heavily.
