Unusual small clumping Haworthia with flat-topped, windowed green leaves. Slow growing. From a winter rainfall area of South Africa. Highly desired in cultivation for its unusual form. Individual rosettes are usually distichous (in two rows) except for var. maughanii (arranged around the center), and they may reach up to 4 inches wide. Different varieties and forms have been named and described, but 2 varieties are currently recognized (the type and maughanii). Various named cultivars and hybrids exist, including one called "Lime Green" which may be a hybrid with cymbiformis or another species. All leaf surfaces (including the window) may be covered with small, dense papillae and have a variably rough texture. The windows and the texture and the unusual arrangement of the leaves make this species a fascinating subject for macro photography.
