I planted one of these roses at my sister's house. On the north side and with a roof overhang, that area only gets an hour or so of morning sun and is in shade the rest of the day. While it does not flower as abundantly as it would with more sunshine, it does set flower and flourish. Might not do so well with NO sun in full shade, but I would be very comfortable in saying it should be fine planted in a shady area.

Not a fan of Zephirine Drouhin. I know a lot of people love it. I tried it and was underwhelmed by the blah, pink, nothing-special blooms. And it only bloomed once in the spring to boot. I know that Zephirine Drouhin reblooms for some people, but that was not the case for me. If a rose is going to bloom only once a year, it had better be a stunner or it is out of my garden. Not a stunner to me and was dug up and tossed years ago.

This is the rose of many people's dreams: It's thornless, it tolerates shade, and the fragrance is wonderful -- reminiscent of raspberries. In the warmer zones, it reblooms reliably throughout the growing season, even in the shade.

Noted by Antique Rose Emporium:
"Beautiful, high-centered, cerise-pink flowers with an overwhelming Bourbon fragrance make this climbing rose a knockout in spring and fall. The canes are thornless and the dark green foliage is thick and very healthy, displaying coppery purple new growth making a vivid contrast with the pink blossoms. A perfect rose to train up a porch column where you will pass it often, or for use where children may be playing. Although this climber has been promoted as a shade grower and bloomer, we can not support that statement."
