This purple-leaved cultivar was developed at Morton Arboretum and is so similar to 'Royal Purple,' and holds the red-purple color well into the summer, though hot temperatures do lessen the brilliance of the red-purple pigments (anthocyanin) on most woody plants. It is supposed to be a little more cold hardy than the other purple-leaved cultivars.
