Dianthus 'Neon Star' is a wonderful perennial plant. The flowers, with their nice, bright, pleasing color, the great clove scent, and the color of the leaves are a winning combination.

I grew it in 2005, dug it up, planted something else a few years later, and didn't get around to replanting it. This variety isn't as easy to find, at least for me, so that's one of the reasons it hasn't been growing in my yard. The other reason is that Dianthus isn't rabbit resistant and we have a lot of Eastern Cottontail Rabbits here year round, every year.

I'm starting to realize and am excited to know that I can grow Dianthus again, as long as I grow them in tall enough containers, with other containers a good distance away, so they won't be a "stepping or hopping stone" for rabbits to hop from. I have other containers here that they've done that to for approx. 2 decades now.
