Initially named Sabal x texensis the Brazoria palmetto is native to southwestern Brazoria County, Texas. Preliminary genetic studies have confirmed these very robust palmetto’s as hybrids, most likely between Sabal minor and S. palmetto. A preliminary evaluation of the ancestry of a putative Sabal hybrid (Arecaceae: Coryphoideae), and the description of a new nothospecies, Sabal × brazoriensis. D.H.Goldman et al..
