Cymbidium lowianum exhibits a level of self-incompatibility; that is, plants pollinated with their own pollen may not produce seed or will only produce a limited quantity (not a full pod).

Destroyed plants due to virus risk - one had become infected after testing, whilst the others were adjacent to a virused plant that only recently expressed symptoms.
