"Paeonia 'The Mackinac Grand', (2-SD-RD) Hybrid Peony, (David Reath, 1992), USDA Hardiness Zone 3, Tall height, semi-double, orange red guard petals, ruffled, yellow stamens, red-tipped carpels, fragrant, early bloomer , Michigan Bloom Month 5b.

American Peony Society Gold Medal Selection for 2013 and Peony of the Year for 2014. Looks very red to me, not orange red. Entry in Burkhardt's peony database is mis-spelled. I assume that the peony is named after the famous Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI."
