Blooms are initially white, but soon turn to bright pink. Foliage is green, becoming purplish red in the autumn. Mounding habit with average water needs. Best in moist, well-drained soils. Prune after flowering. Fertilize in spring. May need winter protection in colder climates.

Hydrangea quercifolia Gatsby Pink® 'JoAnn'. A Proven Winners Oak Leaf Hydrangea. Patented (PP27879, 2017) by Alan Branhagen (Kingsville, MO) and Spring Meadow Nursery Inc. (Grand Haven, MI). The patent abstract claims "A new and distinct cultivar of Hydrangea plant named 'JoAnn', characterized by its loosely upright and outwardly spreading plant habit; strong and sturdy stems; relatively small leaves; freely flowering habit; large showy inflorescences with sterile flowers that are initially white in color and with development become pink to rosy violet pink in color; and good garden performance and winter hardiness." Maybe the key feature here is the changing color of the flowers?
