One of the taller growing Agastaches I have in my garden. Another High Country Gardens introduction.

I love Agastache 'Ava' and am growing it in my garden. I've planted 'Ava' before this year, but I lost it to drought and strong winds we've had in years past. This year I was not going to lose this beautiful Agastache. I purchased three plants to grow next to each other this Spring. It attracts Hummingbirds and I mainly plant with them in mind.

I made sure to add some compost (which I might have forgotten before) in the holes before planting them and tried to keep them watered enough during the Summer, being that they were newly planted. Of course, I always add all purpose sand (from Lowe's). I never use play sand in my garden. I always mulch with small gravel. I've used pea gravel before, but for the past few years, I've been using small limestone gravel that is angular in shape. Agastaches don't like 'wet feet' (roots) during the Winter. I try to make sure the soil they're planted in is very well drained.

I love growing Agastaches, because they are attractive to Hummingbirds or Butterflies, low maintenance, long blooming and smell wonderful!

It's the best selling Agastache at High Country Gardens. HCG introduced 'Ava' in 2005.

Ava's calyxes retain their intense coloration keeping the plant beautiful until hard frost.

This is a hybrid between Agastache cana and Agastache barberi. The plant takes two to three growing seasons to reach mature size.
