    Globose to cylindrical, solitary or offsetting cacti from South America. Bright, colorful flowers (often yellow, orange or red) often have hairs or bristles on the lower parts.

    The genus Parodia has absorbed the former Brasilicactus, Brasiliparodia, Eriocactus, Notocactus, and Wigginsia but not Blossfeldia or Frailea (which is actually older and would take precedence, were it to be combined).
