One of the oldest cowpeas. It was survival food for southern soldiers during the war and for poor folks during the reconstruction . Apparently it was originally two separate varieties that have been combined over the years. Today, the primary use in the south is for wildlife plots with an emphasis on deer. It is also used as a green manure crop. Actually, they are pretty good eating, especially dried. Pods are comparable to White Acre and larger than Lady. Seeds are stronger flavored and comparable in size to White Acre.
