    Small to medium, variable, usually solitary agave from 3000-6000 feet in the SW US and northern Mexico. Variable in color (green to blue) and size (2.5 to 4 feet wide). Channeled leaves with regular teeth and bud imprints. Paniculate inflorescence with branches on the upper third. Nice symmetrical form. Relatively cold tolerant (Starr says zone 7b). Drought tolerant, responds well to summer water.

    From SE Arizona, SW New Mexico, NE Sonora, and NW Chihuahua. In habitat this species intergrades with others including chrysantha, shrevei, parryi. Used for food and fiber by various populations.
