All plants have a purpose. This one is very obnoxious to organized humans as it climbs over everything in its path, stores energy in large tubers, has very painful thorns, and is very difficult to eradicate. Many birds, especially Catbirds, love it for nesting purposes. It provides good cover for wildlife year round. Actually it is quite attractive from a distance, but quite painful close up.
