Managing the Japanese Beetle: A Homeowner's Handbook
Once again, the annual depredation is upon us. Japanese beetles continue to wreak havoc in gardens over an increasingly wider portion of the continent, spreading westward each year. A gardening friend of mine in Joplin, Missouri (in the southwest corner of Missouri bordering Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma) reports the beetles have now arrived there in force this summer. The US Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service offers comprehensive information about the beetles and how to cope with them by using a variety of IPM (Integrated Pest Management) methods.
