Garden Perennials for the Coastal South
I usually can't tell a book by its cover, but I do judge a book's usefulness based on its index. Garden Perennials for the Coastal South, by Barbara J. Sullivan (University of North Carolina Press, 2003; $19.95) has a great index and an equally valuable descriptive list of flowers, ground covers, and bulbs that thrive despite hot, humid summers. Not all of the plants on Sullivan's list are hardy enough for the coldest sections of our region, but this book will still make an excellent addition to your home reference library.
