All About Birds
The Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology's All About Birds Web site can help you learn how to identify birds using various traits, such as silhouette, posture, flight pattern, size, and habitat; how to attract birds; and how to study birds and report your observations for bird research. Other portions of the Web site include details about Project FeederWatch and a home study course in bird biology.

For the Birds
In My Recipes are for the Birds (Doubleday, 1999; $7.95), author Irene Cosgrove has put together a collection of recipes specifically designed for feeding our native birds. With names like Grosbeak Goolash, Junco Jubilee, and Wren Wrolls, you'll get a giggle as well as the satisfaction of creating special snacks for the birds at your feeders this winter. First written in 1975, it's still in print, a testiment that the recipes have the staying power of suet in a woodpecker's belly.
