Searching for Seeds?
The Seed Search, 5th Edition, compiled by Karen Platt (Karen Platt, 2002, $21.95) is an amazing little book that tells you where you can find just about any seed. Want some alliums? Which ones? Platt names 100 varieties and their suppliers. And the list goes on. All together, Platt lists sources for over 40,000 seeds, including more than 9,000 vegetables. A must for the gardener's bookshelf.

'Rosy Chicago' Daylily
'Rosy Chicago' daylily sat there, looking back at me at Seattle's Northwest Flower and Garden Show. I cannot attend the show unless I walk out with a boatload of B&D Lilies.

"Is that a good daylily?" the woman next to me asked. "It's so pretty that when I see it out the window I have to go outside and look at it," I told her.

"That's the best recommendation you could have given me," she said. "Is it hardy?"

"It's bulletproof," I said. She took the lily home with her. Good thing, too, since I already have at least a half dozen of them.
