Marinade for Grilled Vegetables
Tis the season for grilled vegetables! Here's a tasty marinade to use anytime the grill's fired up.

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh basil (1 teaspoon dried)
1-1/2 tablespoons fresh thyme (1/2 teaspoon dried)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Mix ingredients in a ziplock bag with chunks of potatoes, zucchini, peppers, green onions, eggplant, mushrooms, or anything else the garden is providing. Let marinate for 30 minutes. Grill vegetables in a wok basket; heat leftover marinade and pour over vegetables.

Favorite or New Plant

Alpine Aster
This spring- and early summer-blooming aster is little known and seldom planted. Alpine aster (Aster alpinus) forms soft clumps and spreads only slightly, keeping its tidy appearance for years. It grows no more than a foot tall, with lilac, purple, pink, or white flowers. It is a superb plant to draw bees and butterflies, and takes no more care than any other aster. Just provide well-drained soil and a sunny site.
