Green Gardener
I have a delightful lady friend who has been a guest many times on Henry's Garden. Her name is Lisa Van Cleef and she is the Queen of Organic Gardening here in the Bay Area. Lisa writes an entertaining and informative monthly column called "The Green Gardener" for the Home and Garden page of Her columns are fun and filled with info about gardens to visit, seeds to plant, and gardeners to emulate.

Lisa is a self-professed feral, office worker who escaped into the garden, never to return. She now designs gorgeous organic gardens throughout the Bay Area. Her personal web site is Both sites are packed with tips from Lisa, a good friend and a great gardener!

Favorite or New Plant

Angel's Trumpet
The angel's trumpets (Brugmansia) are blooming like crazy right now. I see their pink, yellow, and white blooms everywhere. Native to South America, Brugmansia requires more water than twelve plants put together, but the bloom is worth the effort and expense of watering. Planted in sun or shade and not fussy about soil, these plants will grow quickly from cuttings, stunted only by cold weather. The blooms are fragrant, especially in the evening. Protect from frost and prune severely in early spring to promote branching. Brugmansia was a favorite subject of artist Georgia O'Keefe.
