Clever Gardening Technique

Dusting Greens
Fall greens, such as collards, kale, and mustard, are not only easy to grow but also one of the most healthful foods you can eat. Worms can be disastrous to the leaves, however. A simple remedy is to sift flour or cornstarch on the leaves.

Tool or Gardening Product

It may sound like a clever gimmick, but the Trake is my hands-down favorite trowel. So named because it has a trowel at one end and a three-pronged rake at the other, it is made of solid cast aluminum, making it lightweight and difficult -- if not impossible -- to break. A vinyl grip with a thumb rest and depth markings on the trowel are other useful features. Even though the trowel portion is not large, I can do more serious digging without arm strain with this tool than with any other trowel. Although seldom seen at local stores, it is widely available from Internet sources.
