Favorite or New Plant

Christmas Cactus
A Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) does not thrive in the high temperatures and dry air preferred by other cacti. It does best with cool temperatures of 60 degrees F., and it sets flower buds if it is subjected to short days and cool temperatures beginning the first part of September. If temperatures are too warm and light levels too low when the plant is induced to set flower buds, the buds will fall off.

Set the plant in your brightest window, keep the temperature about 60 degrees at night, keep the growing mix uniformly moist, and fertilize every three weeks during active growth. You will be rewarded with a mass of colorful blooms.
