Pacific Orchid Exposition
This year's Pacific Orchid Exposition in Fort Mason on February 17 to 20 will sparkle with thousands of varieties of these exotic plants, showcasing the talents of those who continue to uncover new species, develop new hybrids, or grow them to perfection. The show offers docent tours, demonstrations, and the opportunity to bring the countless varieties of orchids -- grown by the 50 participating international nurseries -- into our gardens, homes and hearts. In addition, hundreds of award-winning orchids, judged by the American Orchid Society, will be on display. Named one of the top orchid shows in the country, the POE is an event that everyone, from growers to flower enthusiasts, will enjoy.

The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. General Admission is $12, Seniors $8. For information, call (415) 665-2468 or visit:

Bulbs for Indoor Forcing
Have you ever wanted to try forcing bulbs indoors? is a great Web site that sells quality bulbs for just that purpose. Amaryllis and narcissus are only two of the hardy varieties of indoor-blooming bulbs they carry. The amaryllis they sent me was firm and as big as a baby's head! Once I planted it according to their directions, it shot out of the soil. Blooms are soon to follow!
