Clever Gardening Technique

Save Soil, Save Weight
Annual plants don't have deep roots; 8 to 12 inches is more than enough soil for them to grow in. To save money when planting large containers, use recycled plastic peanuts in the bottom half of the pot. Cover the peanuts with landscape fabric or plastic window screen so that the soil won't fall though. Top with fresh potting soil and plant. You will not only save money on soil, but your containers will weigh less and drain better!
