Here are my favorite choices of plants for container water gardens: Vertical accent plants: variegated reed, umbrella palm, water canna, miniature cattail, star grass

Blooming and colorful plants: Houttuynia cordata variegata, water celery

Cascading plants: Parrot's feather, pea plant

Hardy miniature lilies: Nymphaea spp.: 'Perry's Baby Red', 'Helvola', 'Tetrgona', and 'Lady Rosea'

Smaller water lilies: Nymphaea spp.: 'Chrysantha', 'Ellisiana', 'Lucida'

Surface-floating plants: fairy moss, water hyacinth, water lettuce, duckweed

Clever Gardening Technique

Smother Weeds
To keep weeds from growing in the pathways of your vegetable garden, get free carpeting scraps from your local carpet warehouse. Cut them in strips and place them between the rows. They will keep weeds at bay, while making it easier to walk through a soggy garden. One of my radio listeners on "Gardening with an ALTITUDE" ( from Fort Collins, CO) called this one in. He places the carpet with the top side down.
