Favorite or New Plant

Russian Sage
Looking for one of the most adaptable perennials for the landscape? It's Russian sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia), a tall perennial that can accent the garden. It is a striking plant to add to flower beds, in island gardens, among shrub borders, and combined with ornamental grasses. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Water sparingly to keep the plant from becoming floppy.

The Natural Lawn & Alternatives
Here's a handy little paperback that can help you grow a more natural lawn that requires less upkeep. The Natural Lawn and Alternatives (Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 1993) has turf tips, grass zones of the United States, steps to a pesticide-free lawn, a lazy gardener's guide to fertilizing, and much more. It's out of print but used copies are available on the Web.
