Tool or Gardening Product

Mini Winged-Weeder
If you need to cultivate the soil in your container gardens or raised beds, try the mini winged-weeder. This wooden-handled tool with a triangular shaped weeding edge easily cultivates and removes weeds by merely a push and pull action. You can even use it as an ice scraper on garden pathways in the winter. You can find this handy tool at your hardware store or at garden retailers.

Clever Gardening Technique

Prevent Wind Damage and Scare Off Deer
Do you have wind blowing over your prized dahlias, or deer eating the buds? High country gardeners can prevent this problem with modified tomato cages. Cut the wires off the narrow end of the cage and place the large open end over the plant. Anchor the cage to the ground with landscape pins. To thwart the deer from coming by to nibble on the buds, place a clear plastic plant sleeve around the cage and secure with clothespins. If you're lucky, the rustling plastic will scare the deer away!
