Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers are needed to lead children's walks through the San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum. The deadline for registration is December 30, 2005, with training to begin in February. No previous horticultural experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn some basic botany and an eagerness to share information with budding young minds.

This is a three-month training program. Participants will learn basic ecology and botany and will be prepared to guide children through a variety of theme walks at the arboretum. For information and registration, call (415) 661-1316 x 312.

Tool or Gardening Product

Fiskars Telescoping Pruning Stick
What a magnificent tool this is! It extends to over 12 feet on a telescoping pole, has a precision-sharp blade that's controlled not by a pull rope but by a tidy orange handle that slides back and forth along the shaft. It's made of lightweight aluminum, the head rotates to get into those hard to reach places, and it can cut branches up to 1-1/4 inches. If you have any trees on your property, this tool is a must have. Don't forget to put it on your Christmas wish list! Go to and search for item: 92405935.
