Backyard Wildlife Habitat
For 30 years the National Wildlife Federation's Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program has been helping people learn about the needs of wildlife and how to make their yards more friendly to birds and other animals. There's a lot of information on this site, including a step-by-step program to certify your property as a wildlife habitat.

Clever Gardening Technique

Highlight Landscape Features
Now that you have your holiday lights out of the box, why not highlight one of your favorite trees or a landscape feature, such as an arbor or birdhouse or birdbath. Wrap strands of lights around and around to cover the surface as much as you like. Be creative; one of my favorite light displays is an old bicycle that a friend covered in lights. It sits in the front yard treating us to a light show each winter, but it's a bear to replace a strand!
