Jungle Bells
You don't have to fly south this holiday to enjoy the tropics and hot-pink flamingos, hungry alligators, or hanging monkeys. Just go to the breathtaking tropical paradise in downtown Oklahoma City. The Myriad Botanical Gardens and Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory has added Calypso magic with their Jungle Bells exhibit of scarlet and ivory poinsettias amid the towering palm trees, blooming gingers, orchids, bromeliads, and crashing waterfalls. Outside, thousands of lights transform the 17-acre gardens into a sequined holiday wonderland. The exhibit runs though December 31, 2005. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 4 to 12. For more information, visit:, or call (405) 297-3995.

Mailorder Gardening Association
Although it's important to support local nurseries and garden centers, mailorder sources of plants, seeds, and supplies increase your gardening possibilities exponentially. Besides your tried-and-true usual sources, this year explore some of the many others. The Mailorder Gardening Association provides names, addresses, phone numbers, and links to Web sites of dozens of companies. You can choose by category or see the entire list. In addition, the association provides "Smart Shopper Tips," a catalog glossary, hardiness zone map, and information on how to care for plants when they arrive.
