Clever Gardening Technique

Removing a Section of Teddy Bear Cholla
If you've ever been unlucky enough to have a section of this cactus cling to your flesh, you know how difficult it is to remove. Unlike cacti with long, single spines, teddy bear's closely packed spines crisscross in all directions. Attempting to extricate one of the barbed spines has the unfortunate effect of pushing others deeper into the skin. Try this trick to remove the entire clump: Slide a plastic pocket comb between the cactus section and your skin. When the comb is secure beneath the cactus, use a quick, firm flick to dislodge it.
