Getting Started With Natives
Learn about gardening with California native plants at a two-part class at the Theodore Payne Foundation in Sun Valley. The first class on September 9 (10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) is on Native Plant Horticulture, and it can be taken by itself. But if you want to learn more, also sign up for the second class on September 30 (10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) on Native Garden Design. Members, $90; non-members, $120. Clever Gardening Technique

Facecloth Relief
Clip a facecloth or hand towel to your wasteband to wipe the sweat off your forehead and out of your eyes while working in the garden on a hot day. Moisten with the refreshing scent of your choice: lavender, lemon, mint, etc.
