Water Features
If water calls to you and you have yet to make it an integral part of your garden, this Water Features site can provide inspiration and how-to advice. It's a page on the online home of garden designer and author Keith Davitt, and the narrative and illustrative photographs are professional quality.

Favorite or New Plant

Summersweet (Clethra alnifolia), also called sweet pepper bush, is a lovely, late-blooming shrub with fragrant flowers that are welcoming, not overpowering. With little else in the shrub department in bloom at this time of year, summersweet offers spring-like pink or white flowers against deep green foliage. It prefers moist soil in partial shade but will tolerate more sun and spare soil. It's late to break bud in spring, and is at its best when it flowers in late summer and then turns golden in fall. But be patient and you'll be rewarded. 'Ruby Spice' is a favorite variety, with medium pink spires on an 8-foot-tall, 6-foot-wide plant.
