Wonderland Express
Wonderland Express pulls into the Chicago Botanic Garden on Saturday, December 2, bringing holiday magic to all. Outside, 750,000 white lights sparkle and welcome you and your family to the garden's wonderland. Inside the new Regenstein Center, a 10,000-square-foot exhibit of miniature trains winds over bridges, under trestles, past waterfalls, and through dozens of Chicago's favorite landmarks. Walk past an English country train platform, beautifully decorated for the season. Stunning horticultural displays feature hot pink amaryllis, lime-green Cymbidium orchids, and snow-white kalanchoe, among others, as well as 14 festively decorated holiday trees.

Chicago Botanic Garden is at 1000 Lake Cook Road in Glencoe. For info, call (847) 835-5440, or visit:

Favorite or New Plant

Variegated Calamondin Orange
This lovely houseplant is currently providing me with sour but incredible-tasting oranges that we covet for marmalade. The plant has green and cream variegated leaves, fragrant blossoms all summer and winter, and small fruits that are variegated when green and then ripen to soft tangerine. It doesn't produce many fruits, but often has flowers, and green and orange fruit all at the same time. It thrives in a sunny window with regular watering and monthly fertilizing.
