Spring Mill Garden Gala Getaway
Nestled in the southern Indiana hills near Mitchell, Spring Mill State Park brings Brigadoon to mind with its magical valley filled with antique log cabins and working mill for grinding corn. From February 23 to 25, the Park is hosting a Garden Gala Getaway with a wide range of garden-themed programs, including a morning bird walk, woodland hike, and lectures on small gardens, good and bad insects, natives versus invasive plants, making an herb centerpiece, and planting a pizza garden. There will also be a forum where Master Gardeners answer questions.

The weekend starts with a concert of traditional and bluegrass music and ends with a Sunday breakfast and tours of the 1800s formal garden in the Pioneer Village. A special weekend package is available from Spring Mill Inn. Included are a room, meals, workshops, tour, hands-on crafts, and great music. A package is also available for Saturday only. For a complete brochure listing all the classes, prices, and reservation information, call (812) 849-4129. For an e-mail copy, contact

Mailorder Gardening Association
Certainly, we should support our local nurseries and garden centers, but for the widest selection of plants, seeds, and gardening supplies, nothing beat mailorder suppliers. The Mailorder Gardening Association provides helpful information including a large listing of gardening catalogs by category, smart shopping tips, catalog glossary, hardiness zone map, and how to deal with your plants when they arrive. The Green Thumb Awards highlight some of the most interesting products and plants each year.
