Several weeks ago I wrote about my plans to compare different materials for seed-starting. So far, I have only been able to use a commercial germinating mix and Earth Plugs, which are formed from composted bark fiber inoculated with beneficial microorganisms. Tomato seeds planted in the Earth Plugs germinated several days earlier than those in the germinating mix, and they grew faster. In addition, the plants suffered less setback when transplanted. I'll continue to test these and other materials. The Earth Plugs are available from Seeds of Change (http://www.seedsofchange.com).
