Clever Gardening Technique

Apple Bagging
This simple method is giving organic backyard gardeners apples that are free of apple maggot damage. The concept is simple: Toward the end of June, when apple maggots are just emerging, encase each apple in a bag and staple it shut to keep out the adult maggot flies. You can use plastic zip-type bags or paper bags with equal success. By the time apples are coloring up, the bags can be removed and they will be maggot-free!
