Huntington Botanic Garden's Fall Plant Sale
This year's fall plant sale extravaganza will be on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14 , from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thousands of choices, many in 4-inch and gallon containers that make for the most successful transplanting. Highlights this year include the new, multicolored 'Bella' abutilon; pentas in shades of red, pink, or white; and several colors of penstemon that will bloom through most of the year. The event is free. For info call (626) 405-2100, or visit:

Clever Gardening Technique

Garbage Can Tops
Tops of garbage cans, especially plastic ones with no handles, make easy-to-scoot-around receptacles for weeds or harvested fruits and vegetables. They won't injure delicate plants as you work near ground covers, and their broad, shallow surfaces make them perfect for harvesting delicate vegetables and fruits that are best kept in a single layer.
