GreenCare for Troops
Visit Project EverGreen for plenty of information about green space and projects nationwide, then click on their GreenCare for Troops page. This is an outreach program connecting local lawn and landscape companies with men and women serving in the armed forces away from their homes. It's a simple idea: mow the grass, clip the shrubs, etc., for the spouse and family at home while the soldier is away serving our country. Both companies and military families can sign up online and are matched by the organization. More than 1,000 contractors and 4,000 families have joined this year.

'Ever Red Sunset' Loropetalum
Been looking for a reliable red to rule your garden? Released by McCorkle Nursery as part of the Gardener's Confidence Collection, the 'Ever Red Sunset' loropetalum holds its rich burgundy leaf color all summer. My plant was a gift this summer, so it still resides in a pot, and its colors are undimmed by the heat and humidity of this oppressive season. This one is not small, reaching 6 feet tall and as wide with dense growth.
