Flowers and Chocolate
Plan to take your significant other out to Boyce Thompson Arboretum to celebrate Valentine's Day with the Language of Flowers exhibit. Held February 14th to 17th, the event promises to demystify age-old meanings of flowers and bouquets, while also tempting taste buds with gourmet chocolate. Cerreta Candy Company will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, offering chocolate treats for $1. Also watch for early spring wildflowers along the highway and at the Arboretum, located in Superior, Arizona. For info, go to:

When to Prune
Perform any needed pruning this month while plants are dormant. Pruning is part art, part science; for the most part, it shouldn't be obvious that a plant was trimmed, hybrid roses being an exception. Many County Cooperative Extension offices, local garden clubs, and rose societies offer pruning demonstrations.
