San Francisco Flower and Garden Show
Five acres of inspirational gardens designed by the Bay Area's top landscape designers, over 70 free demonstrations and seminars, fabulous specialty shops, and hundreds of garden vendors are all happening at the Cow Palace beginning Wednesday, March 12 (my birthday, thank you very much!) and running through Sunday, March 16. Various plant societies will be on hand, including the Bonsai Society, to show off their handiwork. The San Francisco Flower and Garden Show is a paradise for gardeners. Come by to be inspired and to speak with the professionals who create the latest trends in outdoor living. Paid parking is available. Shuttles run from Bart Balboa Park Station every 30 minutes. Tickets available at the door.

Garden Water Blanket
This new product goes into the "Gee, I wonder why I didn't think of this?" category. The Garden Water Blanket is like a landscape fabric with drip irrigation built in, only better. The fabric is two ply with drip tape sewn between. The layer of fabric that is closest to the soil absorbs moisture and spreads it evenly over the surface. The upper layer is black to absorb heat and prevent weed growth. To plant, all you have to do is cut holes and plant through the blanket, like regular landscape fabric. The Garden Water Blanket will last for five years, or 20 years if covered with a protective layer of mulch. The cost for the kit is about $40 for a 10 x 20 blanket, including the hose connectors and pressure regulators. No weeding and cutting down your water bill by 75 percent, what could be better than this! For more info, visit:
