African Violet Show and Sale
On Saturday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the South Coast Botanic Garden will hold its African violet show and sale at 26300 Crenshaw Blvd. in Palos Verdes Peninsula. Clever Gardening Technique

Asparagus Fork for Weeding
A handy tool to use to pry up entire root systems is the pronged "asparagus fork" that looks like a bent stick. Pull weeds now when they're small and before they form flowers or seeds, and you'll have fewer weed problems later. If you pull out a weed that has already formed its seedhead, do not leave it in a walkway as mulch or compost it, unless you know your compost pile gets hot enough to destroy the seeds.
