Hardy Succulents
Author Gwen Moore Kelaidis and photographer Saxon Holt have combined brilliant, clear writing with stunning photographs to document the treasured family of garden succulents in Hardy Succulents (Storey Publishing, 2008; $19.95). As gardeners and designers seek ways to conserve water, the entire sedum family will become more widely appreciated for its xeriscape potential. All types are well covered here -- from creeping to tall -- in text and pictures sure to inspire. Growing information is included. I'll keep this one on my close-at-hand reference shelf. From for soft cover, $29.95 for hardcover.

Favorite or New Plant

'Diamond Frost' Euphorbia
In pots or garden beds, anywhere heat and drought tolerance (once established in the garden) is needed, this Proven Winners plant deserves your attention. Its delicate looks belie how hardy this jewel really is, with thin green stems covered in white starry flowers. 'Diamond Frost' has been winning awards for its beauty and performance in trials and home gardens. If you like baby's breath but have found it finicky in our region, this one has the same overall effect either alone or in containers.
