For a wide range of information about "putting up" all sorts of food, check this site and its many links. Canning and freezing are covered in depth, of course, but food drying and vacuum sealing are more popular every year. As more people want to preserve food, it's vital to know how to do it properly, with proper sanitation and temperature controls all through the process. Get good information, such as that offered by the home economists at your local Cooperative Extension Service, then proceed with care to fill shelves and freezers with healthy food.

Flowers From Seed to Bloom
Eileen Powell is the author of The Gardener's A-Z Guide to Growing Flowers, a comprehensive book from Storey Publishing (2004; $24.95). Though not personally acquainted, she clearly has a librarian's heart, since this amazing reference book needs to be on every gardener's shelf if they grow from seed or want to. Her charts and tables are clear and the information readily accessible. From her well-developed codes, you can clearly see what grows in what zone and when and how to start the seeds, as well as where to get them. The word "comprehensive" may be overused, but it truly applies to this new book.
