Clever Gardening Technique

Bagging Apples to Keep Out Pesky Maggots
There is a simple and nontoxic way to thwart apple maggots out of your apple crop. The concept is relatively simple but somewhat labor intensive. When apple maggots are emerging in summer, encase each apple in a bag and staple it shut to keep out the adult maggot flies. Use plastic sandwich baggies that will easily slip over the developing fruits. Remove the bags when the apples start to develop color.
