Clever Gardening Technique

Adjust Width of Strawberry Rows
Narrow rows of strawberry plants give better sunlight penetration, better disease control, and better fruit quality than wide rows. You can adjust the width of your rows to 12 to 18 inches as you're renovating your bed for next year. Any runners that haven't rooted by September will not produce well next year, so remove them.

Queen-of-the-Prairie 'Venusta'
Queen-of-the-prairie (Filipendula rubra 'Venusta') reigns supreme over the garden in midsummer. Her deep pink flower sprays resemble cotton candy and command attention when she reaches 5 to 7 feet tall. This plant is adaptable to moist or average soils, and it spreads into a large clump so give it plenty of room. It's easily divided so you can spread out the show.
