Clever Gardening Technique

Choose Transplants Without Blooms
Unless you need instant color for a special event or are planting late in the growing season, buy annual flowers and vegetable transplants that are not in flower or have only buds. Plants that are already expending energy on flowers or fruits are slower to kick in and develop root systems after transplanting. Vigorous roots will ultimately support more flowers and fruits over the lengthy growing season. Even so, we like instant gratification, so don't feel too guilty if you are tempted by a few choices in full flower!
