Organic Flower Gardening
From asters to zinnias, The Complete Flower Gardener by Karan Davis Cutler and Barbara W. Ellis (John Wiley & Sons, Inc, 2007) is a comprehensive guide to growing flowers with an environmentally-friendly and organic approach. You'll find ideas on creating various borders and flower beds; combining flower colors, shapes, and textures; advice on caring for the flower garden, and guidelines for avoiding a chemically-dependent garden. This book is great for beginners but also contains in-depth information for seasoned gardeners.

Clever Gardening Technique

Harvesting Flower Seeds
To easily harvest seeds of annual and perennial flowers such as marigolds and penstemons, place the drying flower heads upside down in separate brown paper bags. Lightly tie with a rubber band or wire twist and allow the heads to thoroughly dry. The seeds will fall off when mature and can be separated from the chaff and stored for future use.
