Pruning Ornamental Shrubs
Pruning season will soon be here so now is a good time to brush up on the why and how of pruning. The Pruning Ornamental Shrubs Web page from the University of Missouri Extension is a great introduction to the topic of pruning. It includes good info on pruning tools and some fairly detailed "how to" instructions on pruning various types of shrubs.

'Marie Pavie' Rose
Roses are not just for rosarians or green thumb gardeners. 'Marie Pavie' is an incredibly easy-to-grow and versatile rose that can turn anyone into a successful rose grower. This polyantha type rose was introduced in the late 1800's in France, but it has taken up Texas life like few roses can.

Fragrant, pale cream flowers with pale pink centers are borne throughout the growing season on 3- to 4-foot bushes. The stems are almost thornless, and the foliage is rarely plagued by disease. The bush type growth habit makes it well suited as a landscape shrub or container plant. Give it a soil with some compost mixed in and a bright, sunny spot, and you'll be rewarded with easy care beauty all season long.
